How to make A/B testing

Sending an email is an important task in any email marketing strategy. But how do you know what is the most effective subject to get users to open and read the email? The answer is AB Testing.

Icomm has the Multiple Subject function that allows sending a shipment with several subjects and selecting the one with the best performance. Here's how to make an AB Testing submission on our platform:

Go to Delivery Configurations module
Enter New Configuration
Complete Delivery Configuration Data
Complete Profiles and Audiences
Configure AB Testing
When scheduling a shipment, select the Multiple Subject option in the Delivery Options section.

Complete Sample size: Write the number of shipments you want to make for the test. It is recommended that the sample be large enough to obtain significant results.

Select the Time to choose the winning subject (minutes): set the time that the test will last before sending the rest of the emails with the winning subject. The recommended time is 2 to 4 hours.

Primary subject: it is the subject that was completed in Configuration N°1. This subject will be one of the subjects that will be sent to the sample.

Complete Alternative Subjects: Add the alternative subjects that you want to try. You can add more subjects by clicking on the [+] button located to the right of the Primary Subject.

Once you have completed the sending configuration, the Icomm platform will send an email with the different subjects to a sample of randomly selected contacts. After the test time has passed, the platform will select the subject that had the most opens and send the rest of the emails with that subject.

In the event that the AB Testing results tie, the winning issue will be the top issue that was added in the Submission Configuration Data tab.

How to see the AB Testing Results?

To see the results of AB Testing, you must enter the Live Results module of the platform and click on the configuration you wish to observe.

There, you will be able to obtain the data of the views that the emails had with each of the subjects and the duration of the Multiple Subject test.

From here you will also be able to extend the duration of the AB Testing simply by adding the number of minutes you wish to extend the test and pressing the Extend button. (This will only be possible for a few minutes after the AB Testing is sent).

Running an AB Testing send at Icomm is an effective way to determine which subject line works best for your email marketing campaigns. Follow these simple steps and you'll be on your way to improving the opening and reading of your emails.
